What is the capital of Thailand? Bangkok
What is the local currency? Thai Baht (THB). You can withdraw money from Banks and ATM's across Thailand. Currency exchange is available at banks and hotels
Are inoculations compulsory? There are no compulsory inoculations for Thailand. Precautions against Malaria and Hepatitis B/typhoid vaccinations are recommended if you plan on travelling onwards to Northern Thailand or near to the boarders of the Mekhong regions. Always consult your doctor before travelling
Do they speak English in Thailand? English is widely spoken and is the country's second official language
How do you say "Hello" in Thai Sawasdee (pronounced sa-wad-dee) and end with: Ka - if you are female Krub - if you are male
What is the biggest island? Phuket
What side of the road do the Thai's drive on? Thai's drive on the left hand side
How much does it cost to get a taxi from Bangkok Airport to the city centre? Approximately THB 350 which should include toll payments (roughly GBP 5.00 or 8 USD depending on exchange rate)
How much does a meal for two cost in a local restaurant? Between GBP 8-10 for two people (12 - 16 USD)
When is the best time to travel? November to March for Thailand in general however, the best time to visit the island of Koh Samui is June to September
Do you need a visa? Only if staying for longer than 30 days. Please check directly with the Royal Thai Embassy for more detailed information on passport and visa regulations.

What religion is practiced in Thailand? 99% of all Thai's are Buddhist
Where can I get a tailor-made suit from? There are a vast array of tailors available to choose from. Ask your guide on arrival or call our local office for reccomendations
Where can I get good gems and jewellery? Always look for the Jewel Fest Club stamp of approval when purchasing any gems or jewellery.
Will my electrical appliances work in Thailand? The electrical current in Thailand is 220 Volts AC (50 cycles) throughout the country. Travellers will need an International adaptor. If you wish to use/charge electric shavers, laptops, mobile phones and other PDA devices travelers are encouraged to purchase a 110-volt transformer.
Is it customary to tip while I'm in Thailand? It is commonplace to tip porters and hotel personnel who provide good service. As a guideline 10-15% tip is acceptable.
